One day out of the year, your supposed to express your love and appreciation for the ones you love, like family, close friends and importantly, your significant other. This day is famously known as, Valentines Day!
There are various stories about the origin of Valentines Day, but there is one I am familiar with. Valentines Day was an ancient Roman tradition, created by Saint Valentine. Saint Valentine defied his emperor and would secretly perform marriages for younger couples. Soon after, he was imprisoned and fell in love with his jailers daughter. Who would visit him often. In jail, Valentine sent her the first Valentine greeting. Before his death, he ended a letter for her with the words "From Your Valentine". Which is still used today.
These days, love is expressed with giving your loved ones chocolates, flowers, Valentine greetings, cute stuffed animals, romantic dinners and expensive jewelry. Valentines Day is the second biggest card giving Holiday in the US, with about 1 billion cards being sent out.
